JP Nadda Inaugurates ICMR Centre to Boost Mountain Medical Research
During a ceremony in Kelang, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda marked the beginning of a high‑altitude medical research hub. The ICMR centre aims to generate robust data on health problems that arise from living above 3,000 metres, such as hypoxia, cold‑induced ailments and the impact of traditional lifestyles.
Nadda stressed that a systematic understanding of these challenges will enable targeted interventions, protect vulnerable tribal populations and enhance the readiness of armed forces deployed in mountain zones.
He praised the joint effort between ICMR and the Armed Forces Medical Services, noting that combining scientific rigor with field experience will accelerate the development of evidence‑based health solutions.
The minister also lauded AIIMS Bhilai for its role in clinical research, which will complement the centre’s epidemiological studies and help translate findings into practical medical protocols for high‑altitude regions.
