JNU Fires MP Akoiym Over Sexual Harassment; Manipur Leader Urges Immediate Exit

Jawaharlal Nehru University’s vice‑chancellor, Shanti D. Pandit, issued an order on Friday confirming the dismissal of Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoiym from the Centre for Social Systems Studies. The university’s internal committee, after reviewing multiple complaints from at least eleven female students, recommended the strictest sanction under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules. Following the university’s action, Manipur’s chief minister Yumnam Khimchand Singh posted that the dismissal is “unacceptable for a person holding a high legislative office.” He called on Akoiym to resign from the Lok Sabha, stating that the MP’s continued presence would undermine parliamentary dignity.
