New Vehicle Policy Proposes ‘One Car‑One Officer’ for J&K Government

Transport Minister Satish Sharma presented a revised motor‑vehicle policy currently under consideration by the Union Territory’s government. The draft introduces a "one vehicle‑one officer" principle intended to optimise the use of official vehicles, curb unnecessary expenditure, and ensure accountability. The policy also envisages special exemptions for vehicles used in security duties, field operations, additional charges, and specific departmental requirements. Once approved, the State Motor Garage will conduct periodic physical verification of the fleet, and the revised norms will be cascaded to all departments, PSUs, boards and autonomous bodies.
