Jind’s GST Enforcement Officer and Chartered Accountant Arrested Over Bribery

In a decisive move, the ACB in Jind arrested a GST Enforcement Officer and the chartered accountant Ajay Sharma on allegations of demanding a ₹5 lakh bribe to withdraw a ₹75 lakh GST notice.\n\nThe complaint originated from Aman, a trader who said the officials used intimidation tactics, insisting that the notice would be lifted only after the illicit payment. Sharma reportedly collected ₹3 lakh on the spot, with an agreement to receive the remaining amount later.\n\nMahendra Singh, the senior ACB inspector, revealed that a joint team comprising ACB officers and mining department officials executed the sting. Both individuals have been formally charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.\n\nThe incident highlights a broader crackdown on corruption within revenue departments and serves as a warning to officials who attempt to exploit taxpayers.
