Wine Shop Chaos: Monkey Gets Drunk, Bites Worker, Rescued by Zoo Team
Friday night in Ranchi’s Ormanjhi district turned chaotic when a monkey broke into a wine shop located in the Block Chowk shopping centre. The primate, which was pregnant at the time, snatched a quarter‑bottle of "Magic Moments" wine and drained it completely, leading to immediate intoxication.
The animal soon fell asleep on the shop floor. Upon waking, the alcohol's impact was evident; the monkey began to splash wine, knock over shelves and create a scene that alarmed shoppers and employees alike. An attempt by a staff member to restrain the animal resulted in a bite, leaving the worker with a fresh wound.
Shop personnel alerted the Ormanjhi police, who in turn informed the rescue team from the adjacent Birsa Munda Biological Park. The park’s rescue crew arrived, carefully netted the drunken monkey and transferred it to the zoo for treatment and observation. The incident, captured on video, quickly spread across social platforms, prompting discussions about the safety of liquor outlets and the importance of wildlife rescue protocols.
