A shocking incident has come to light from the Simdega district of Jharkhand, where a newlywed woman, Puja Devi, set her husband, Manoj Singh, on fire after dousing him with petrol. The incident occurred in the Ganjhu Toli area of the Genmer Panchayat in the Bano block of Simdega district. Manoj, who sustained severe burn injuries, has been admitted to the IGH Hospital in Rourkela for better treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
Following the incident, Girda OP police took Puja Devi into custody and initiated an investigation. Local villagers report that Manoj Singh and Puja were married approximately four months ago. On Friday, a domestic dispute arose between Manoj and Puja. The argument subsided after a while, and Manoj went to sit a short distance from their home.
While he was sitting outside, his wife unexpectedly arrived, poured petrol on him, and set him ablaze. The sudden act left Manoj severely burned before he could react. Villagers and family members managed to extinguish the fire and rushed Manoj to a local hospital for initial treatment. He was later transferred to the IGH Hospital in Rourkela, where his condition remains critical.
Police have taken Puja into custody, and an investigation is underway. The exact cause of the wife’s actions remains unclear. The incident has become a topic of widespread discussion in the area.
This incident mirrors a similar event that occurred a few months prior in the Gumla district of Jharkhand. In that case, a woman attacked her husband with an axe over a cooking-related dispute, and subsequently set him on fire with petrol. Her 10-month-old child was also caught in the flames during the incident.
