Weather Today: Winter Chill Grows, Heavy Rain in South

Weather patterns across India are diverging sharply this week. The north and east are gradually turning cooler, with mornings and evenings feeling distinctly chilly. This marks the first hints of the winter season. Snowfall in the upper areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand is now influencing conditions on the northern plains, whereas southern India remains under a steady spell of rain.

The weather forecast for October 23 indicates a completely clear sky in Delhi, with no chance of rain. Cold is being felt during the mornings, evenings, and nights. Maximum temperatures are likely to reach 32 degrees Celsius, and minimums are expected around 20 degrees Celsius. Partial cloud cover may be seen on October 24 and 25.

In Uttar Pradesh, many districts are experiencing cooler early mornings and evenings, with sunny afternoons. According to the India Meteorological Department, no major shift is expected in the coming days. The state is likely to stay mostly dry, and nighttime temperatures may dip further. Isolated light rain is possible in some places on October 28. No weather advisory has been issued for Bihar. Jharkhand is expected to remain dry today, with the cold setting in more strongly during the mornings and evenings.

Madhya Pradesh is still experiencing gusty winds and rain even after the monsoon has retreated. Rajasthan is not forecast to receive rain in either its eastern or western zones, and no district has been placed under alert. However, a fresh western disturbance may influence weather in parts of western Rajasthan starting October 24, bringing light showers to certain areas of the Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions.

No major seasonal changes are expected this week across northwest, west, and northeast India. Konkan and Goa will likely continue to see hot and muggy weather. Meanwhile, the activation of the northeast monsoon has brought intense rainfall to several southern states. Chennai and Madurai have experienced heavy to very heavy downpours, which have disrupted normal life. Rain is expected to continue across southern India for several more days.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Lakshadweep are forecast to receive heavy rain until October 26. Coastal Andhra Pradesh may also see heavy showers, and Odisha is expected to witness heavy rain on October 27 and 28.

For the hill states, the four mountainous districts of Uttarakhand, namely Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, may see very light rain at isolated spots. Seasonal snowfall is possible on peaks above 3,500 meters. Most of Himachal Pradesh is clear at present, but parts of the state may receive rain on October 24 and 25, with snow expected on the highest peaks.
