Urban areas lead Ranchi's Pulse Polio success with 106% coverage

During the Pulse Polio drive conducted from June 28 to June 30, Ranchi’s urban zones outperformed expectations, delivering a coverage of 106.62 percent. The health department had set a target of vaccinating 207,381 children in city areas, but the final count rose to 221,104, indicating that the outreach exceeded the planned figures.

Overall, the district aimed to protect 505,524 children with the oral polio vaccine. The final numbers showed 515,694 children inoculated, resulting in an overall coverage of 102.01 percent. Rural blocks achieved a respectable 98.81 percent coverage, with 294,590 children immunised out of the 298,143 targeted.

Sub‑district performance highlights include Sonahatu with a 104.63 percent coverage, Namkum at 103.04 percent, and Mander reaching 100.65 percent. Smaller blocks—Kanke, Bundu, Silti, and Angara—also reported near‑full vaccination rates. The least coverage was seen in Ratu block, recording 91.11 percent.

The campaign’s success is attributed to focused teams that visited homes and set up community booths, aiming to safeguard all children under five years of age against polio.
