Tragic Death of Ranchi Student Highlights Safety Gaps at Tourist Spots

The death of 20‑year‑old Nilesh Kachhap has sparked a fresh debate on visitor safety at Jharkhand’s scenic locations. The Ranchi native, originally from Bada Ghaghara in the Doranda police area, left home under the pretense of attending college. He and a small group of friends chose to spend the day at Rimix Falls, a waterfall famed for its natural beauty.

Despite being cautioned by other tourists that the lower pool was a high‑risk zone, the youngsters entered the water. Nilesh was quickly swept into the deeper currents and drowned. His friends’ rescue attempts were thwarted by the rapid flow and depth.

Maranghada police, aided by local divers, recovered the body after three hours of searching. The post‑mortem confirmed death by drowning. Authorities have now called for stricter enforcement of safety signs and better public awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.
