Tragic Death of Nareś Vishwakarma Highlights Substance Abuse Crisis

A sorrowful episode in Giridih's Kenduadih village has brought the issue of substance dependence into the spotlight. Nareś Vishwakarma, aged around 32, was a known gambler and regular consumer of alcohol.

According to neighbours, he often begged his spouse, Anu Devi, for money to fuel his betting and drinking. When she refused, citing lack of funds, Vishwakarma isolated himself in a bedroom, secured the door, and later was found hanging.

Relatives broke down the door after hearing no activity for several hours and discovered the grim scene. Police were summoned, the body was collected, and a post‑mortem was ordered at Giridih Sadar Hospital.

The incident has reignited discussions on the impact of gambling and alcohol addiction on family stability and the necessity for preventive outreach in remote areas.
