Traditional Karam Puja and Raja Procession Set for Late September

The Karam Mahotsav, a cornerstone of Jharkhand’s tribal heritage, will launch on September 22 with a traditional puja at 7 p.m. in Dhumkudiya, Misir Gonda. The Birsa Vikas Jan Kalyan Committee, chaired by patron Manga Urav and managed by operational secretary Krishna Urav, has finalized a schedule that respects centuries‑old rituals.

Chilgu Lakda, a respected intellectual, confirmed that the fasting day aligns with the Ekadashi of the Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha. After the puja, the Parna ceremony will be observed on September 23. The following day, September 24, the Karam Raja will travel through the village in a customary procession before being immersed, marking the climax of the ritual sequence.

The festival will conclude with the Karam Ind Jatra on September 25, a celebration that draws participants from across the region. Committee president Anil Urav appealed for a three‑day official holiday to ensure full community participation and the preservation of tribal customs.
