The last rites of the late Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, were performed with full religious rituals on Tuesday. The cremation took place in his ancestral village, Nemra, under the Gola block of Ramgarh district. A large crowd of his well-wishers gathered there.
Early on Tuesday, people began arriving at Nemra upon learning of the final rites of Shibu Soren, known as Guruji. The district administration had set up barricades at Lukaiyatand, about seven kilometers before the village. Arrangements were made for VIPs, including a helipad and vehicles. The VIPs were able to use the route designated by the district administration. However, supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Shibu Soren chose to walk the seven-kilometer distance.
Ordinary people reached Nemra on foot from Lukaiyatand. There was no space to walk on the roads. The path repaired by the district administration to reach the crematorium was also filled with mud. Arrangements were made to carry the body by placing planks in the paddy fields and mud. When the common people found no way, they took to the footpaths in the fields. Shibu Soren’s supporters reached the crematorium through different footpaths. The most significant thing was that when it started raining, some people took shelter in tents. However, the supporters of Shibu Soren stood their ground in this situation. They stood in the rain for about half an hour and finally returned after paying their respects to their leader.
