River Rescue Saves Expectant Wife From Fatal Push in Ranchi District

A harrowing incident unfolded in the Angara area of Ranchi district when a pregnant woman, Lakhmani, survived a deliberate push into the Radhú River by her husband, Suresh Mahato, also known as Mithunjay Mahato. The accused, who hails from the Bundu police circle, reportedly wanted to marry again and viewed his wife as an obstacle. On a rainy Saturday night, he took her to the Pak Joda bridge under the pretext of a walk, then forced her into the river. Thanks to her swimming ability, Lakhmani remained alive and drifted to a small island in the river. The following day, villagers who visited the riverbank spotted the woman stranded on the island. After several hours of coordinated effort, they rescued her and handed her over to the authorities. Police have taken her testimony, lodged a case against Mahato, and launched a search operation across Bundu and nearby locations.
