Residents Advised to Stay Indoors as Jharkhand Faces Severe Weather July 1‑4
Ranchi – An orange weather alert has been declared for Jharkhand from July 1 to July 4, as the monsoon system intensifies over the state. The Jharkhand IMD warns of heavy rain, strong gusts of wind and repeated thunder‑storm activity.
Wind speeds are expected to reach between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour in many areas, while lightning strikes may accompany the rain bands. Authorities have asked citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to remain indoors where possible.
The most intense precipitation is likely to occur on July 2 and again on July 6 across the north‑east, southern and central districts. A yellow alert has also been issued for widespread lightning.
Special caution is directed at farmers, outdoor workers and people living in rural settlements. The public should refrain from standing under trees, staying in open fields or approaching power lines during the adverse weather.
In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded at Baharagora (West Singhbhum) with 64.5 mm. The highest temperature measured was 39.4 °C in Daltonganj, while the lowest temperature of 21.3 °C was observed at Latahar.
On Tuesday, cloud cover dominated the sky over the state capital from early morning. Light showers in the afternoon brought a temporary cooling effect, and overall temperatures fell compared with the previous day.
Temperature readings across major towns showed Ranchi at a maximum of 33.9 °C and a minimum of 22.5 °C. Jamshedpur logged 36.8 °C / 24.8 °C, Daltonganj 39.4 °C / 24.4 °C, Bokaro 33.1 °C / 24.6 °C, and Chaibasa 36.4 °C / 24.2 °C.
The meteorological department expects monsoon activity to persist throughout Jharkhand for the next several days. Residents are urged to monitor official updates and adhere strictly to safety guidelines issued by the administration.
