Ranchi Tragedy: Teenager Slain By Father Over Bedroom Lockout Row
A teenager in Jharkhand has lost his life after his father allegedly attacked him with an axe during a night of domestic turmoil. The murder took place in Siyatoli, a locality in Bobro village under the Narkopi police jurisdiction in Ranchi.
The accused, Devanath Uraw, is known to suffer from chronic mental illness. The incident traces back to a disagreement on Monday night when Devanath attempted to run away from home. His 17-year-old son, Nitesh Uraw, took decisive action by locking him inside a room to restrain him.
What followed was a devastating attack early Tuesday morning. Around 4 AM, while Nitesh was resting peacefully, Devanath picked up an axe from their house and unleashed a violent barrage on the sleeping youth. The multiple blows proved fatal.
Rather than running away, the accused remained at the crime scene. He reportedly went to other family members to inform them about the murder himself. Relatives immediately rushed the severely injured Nitesh to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death has left the community and his family devastated.
Local residents quickly alerted the Narkopi police detachment. Upon reaching the scene, a police team documented the location, took custody of the deceased’s body, and arranged for a postmortem. The accused was taken into police custody without resistance. Investigators also seized the bloodied axe from the premises.
Initial probes indicate that the suspect’s psychiatric condition likely fueled the deadly outburst. Police are conducting thorough questioning with the relatives and compiling a complete investigation report to determine if any other factors contributed to the tragic homicide.
