Ranchi to host 135th Durand Cup-2026 for the first time, strict security arrangements at the stadium
Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is going to host the 135th edition of Asia's oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup-2026, for the first time. The state government's Tourism, Art-Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Department has termed it a historic achievement for Jharkhand. The tournament will begin on July 26, and Chief Minister Mr. Hemant will inaugurate it. The Directorate of Sports has made extensive preparations for this. These details were shared by Director of Sports Mr. Chhavi Ranjan at a press conference organized at Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Morabadi. Indian Army representative Manoj Kumar Jha was also present on the occasion.
Free tickets will be arranged for spectators
Mr. Chhavi Ranjan stated that free tickets have been arranged for spectators. The state government has arranged free tickets to watch the match. There will be no need to pay any money to watch the match. Free tickets will be distributed from July 22 to August 16, 2026. Tickets will be available from 11 AM to 4 PM, and a maximum of four tickets will be given to one person. Ten counters have been set up between gates number 11 and 13 in the stadium premises, along with two additional counters near gate number 23. The administration has appealed to spectators to reach the stadium at least one hour before the match starts. Delayed entry may cause inconvenience to spectators due to security checks. Those who violate the rules may be denied entry.
At the press conference, Mr. Chhavi Ranjan said that the Durand Cup, which started in 1888, is the oldest football tournament in Asia and the third oldest in the world. In its 135th edition, to be held in Ranchi, 24 teams will compete for the title across five host cities. The competition will feature participation from Indian Super League (ISL), I-League clubs, along with Indian armed forces and foreign military teams.
Strict security arrangements at the stadium
Strict guidelines have been issued regarding security during the tournament. Spectators will not be allowed to bring items such as weapons, firecrackers, large bags, outside food items, alcohol, tobacco products, drones, professional cameras, laptops, large power banks, helmets, megaphones, air horns, large flags, laser pointers, and aerosol sprays.
