Ranchi Shocker: Man Kills Wife, Mother-in-law With Rod, Flees
Ranchi has been shaken by a horrifying double murder linked to a domestic quarrel. In the Tatisilwe police station limits, a son-in-law is accused of fatally assaulting his wife and mother-in-law with an iron rod in the Purana Chatra area. Both women were grievously hurt in the attack and later died during treatment. The accused fled after the crime, and police are carrying out continuous raids to nab him.
The violent episode unfolded on Sunday afternoon in Purana Chatra, where resident Sawan Birhor allegedly got into a fight with his wife, Mamta Devi, over a domestic issue. As the argument intensified, he is alleged to have launched a series of attacks on her with an iron rod, causing severe injuries that left her collapsed on the ground.
Mother Injured Trying to Intervene
Hearing the commotion and seeing her daughter under attack, Sonia Devi came forward to save Mamta and to stop the accused. Allegedly, Sawan Birhor then targeted his mother-in-law as well, striking her multiple times with the rod. She too suffered serious injuries.
Family members and residents shifted the injured women to a nearby private hospital. After first aid, their condition was found to be serious, and they were referred to RIMS Ranchi. However, both mother and daughter died while undergoing treatment.
FIR Filed, Police Hunt for Accused
The deceased are 48-year-old Sonia Devi, wife of Nukul Mahli, and her 34-year-old daughter, Mamta Devi. The loss of two women from a single family has plunged relatives into grief. Acting on the family's complaint, the Tatisilwe police station has registered a murder case. A forensic team was called to the scene to collect necessary evidence.
Police teams are currently searching likely hideouts of the absconding accused, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
