Ranchi Scam: Two Conmen Pose as Pandits, Escape with Gold Worth ₹20 Lakh

Police in Ranchi are investigating a brazen theft that targeted an elderly woman named Renu Kushwaha. While she was on her way home from a temple, two men in priestly attire stopped her, feigning distress and asking for water. They soon shifted to a frightening narrative about a looming family tragedy and offered a quick remedy: handing over her gold jewellery for a ritual that would invoke Lord Hanuman’s protection. After she complied and walked ten steps chanting, the men fled the scene with four gold bangles, two rings, a chain and a locket, collectively valued at about ₹20 lakh.
