Burn injuries: Ranchi’s long‑time rickshaw driver hospitalized after violent dispute
Samir, a rickshaw driver from Namkum who had served owner Mohammed Aslam for roughly ten years, faced a violent confrontation on July 11. After informing the owner that he would quit driving, the driver was allegedly attacked by the owner's son, who poured petrol over him and set it alight.
The fire caused severe burns across Samir’s body. He was rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) where he is undergoing intensive burn care. Medical staff describe his condition as critical, with ongoing treatment required.
Family members have lodged a formal complaint at Lower Market police station, naming the owner, his son and Shahid Khan as suspects. Police are conducting raids and have promised swift arrests.
