Ranchi Police Detain Fast‑Food Proprietor After Fatal Knife Assault During Festival
During the Diwali celebrations, a small disagreement over the use of fireworks in Ranchi’s Anga Chowk turned deadly.
Jagannath Mahato, who runs a hardware shop on the ground floor, had displayed brooms and other items for customers outside his shop.
Above him, Aniket Chauhan, the owner of a fast‑food restaurant, was lighting fireworks from his rooftop.
Concerned about the risk of fire, Mahato asked Chauhan to stop the activity.
Instead of complying, Chauhan allegedly seized a knife from his kitchen and attacked Mahato, causing severe wounds.
Immediate help from locals got the injured man to a nearby hospital where he was treated.
Ranchi police seized Chauhan, placed him in custody and have started a detailed investigation into the assault.
The case highlights the need for community vigilance and responsible conduct during public festivals.
