Ranchi Leads Nationwide ‘Khelo India’ Events Ahead of August 27 Celebration

The city of Ranchi will serve as a central node for the nation‑wide “Khelo India Dialogue” scheduled on August 27, coinciding with the rescheduled National Sports Day. The decision moves the celebration from the usual 29 August date to align with Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary and a broader youth‑centric vision.

State officials announced that the Ministry of Youth Affairs will coordinate “Youth Connect” sessions in two colleges of every district, providing a platform for young people to converse with senior sportspersons, legislators, ministers and local community leaders. The programme promises to detail the transformation of India’s sports sector since Prime Minister Modi took office, while also gathering fresh input from the younger generation.

Prime Minister Modi will address more than eight hundred thousand participants through a virtual broadcast that reaches over 1.6 million youths spread across 1,600 venues, including three sites in Ranchi such as the Indian Military Academy. After the national address, each regional hub will focus on local dialogue, featuring My India volunteers and regional athletes.

The agenda is built around four strategic themes: upgrading grassroots facilities and coaching, grooming talent for the 2036 Olympic vision, expanding youth involvement in sports governance, and integrating sports with future skill acquisition, volunteering and nation‑building initiatives.
