Guardians Caught Gambling: 10 Cops Suspended in Ranchi
In a development that has stunned the state capital, gambling was found taking place inside the police line in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The people entrusted with enforcing the law were themselves caught gambling, and 10 policemen have now been suspended.
Gambling in public spaces is a familiar sight, and police action against it is often reported. However, this case is different, as the activity was reported inside the police line campus itself. The news caused an immediate stir within the department, and prompt action followed.
Several Complaints Prompt Action
According to information, senior officials had repeatedly received complaints that some policemen were playing and running gambling inside the police line campus. After these complaints were examined, a special team was set up.
Caught Red-Handed During Raid
The Sergeant Major was informed that policemen were gambling in the police line, and a raid followed. The team surrounded the designated location and caught 10 policemen red-handed while they were gambling. All of them were suspended after the operation.
SSP Rakesh Ranjan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi, ordered the suspension. He said the policemen had abandoned the dignity of the uniform and discipline by taking part in gambling and facilitating it.
Sergeant Major Anand Raj Khalkho confirmed the action and said that disciplinary and departmental proceedings have begun against every accused policeman.
Rising Concern Over Police Conduct
The involvement of policemen in gambling has raised questions about how the force is functioning. Since the police are responsible for ensuring discipline and upholding the law, their own participation in such activities has become a matter of public and administrative concern.
