Ranchi Crime: Friends' Fight Over ₹9,000 Leads to Murder

Ranchi police have arrested three men accused of killing their associate Rajan Tirkey after a dispute surrounding a ₹9,000 mutton and liquor party.

The first alert came on the night of September 8 when locals reported gunshots close to Masna village in the Kanke police area. Officers arriving at the Potpoto River found significant blood stains but no live casualties, prompting the senior superintendent to order a specialized raid unit.

A comprehensive river search, aided by drones and ground forces, lasted two days. On September 11, a floating corpse was located near Jayprakash Nagar. The body was identified as Rajan Tirkey, a resident of Chama‑Bukur, Kanke, who had been shot to death.

Technical evidence coupled with human intelligence led to the detention of Sanjay Gadi, Akash Mahli alias Chudu, and Nitin Urav. All three confessed to involvement in the homicide during questioning.

Investigators say the conflict began when Sanjay Gadi took an advance of ₹9,000 to facilitate the sale of his car. Rajan allegedly coerced Sanjay into spending the money on a celebratory meal and drinks, forcibly taking the cash. The argument flared when the four friends met near Masna for the party, resulting in a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, Sanjay reportedly fired his 7.65 mm pistol, wounding Rajan mortally. The trio then attempted to conceal the crime by discarding the body into the Potpoto River.

Police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, a live round, a knife, a Bajaj Platinum bike, and three Android phones from the suspects. Further inquiries are underway to uncover the full scope of the murder.
