Police Probe Petrol‑Fueled Attack in Ranchi After Inheritance Fight

Authorities in Ranchi are scrutinising a brutal attack that involved spraying petrol inside a bedroom and setting it alight. The victims, identified as Salim Ansari and his wife Ishrat Jahan, were discovered unconscious and heavily burned. The incident took place in the Imambada area of Pundag police station, a locality already known for land‑ownership conflicts.

Investigators have linked the act to a bitter rivalry between two brothers over the splitting of family land. The older sibling, Latif Ansari, allegedly orchestrated the fire to remove his brother from the inheritance equation. The police have taken him into custody, filed an FIR for attempted murder, and are probing whether other individuals were involved. CCTV recordings from nearby shops are being analysed, and a forensic team has recovered petrol traces and accelerant residues from the scene.
