Police Probe Fatal Shooting After Argument Over Drink Preparation in Ranchi

Authorities in Ranchi are investigating a shooting that took place late on Sunday in the Bariahtu jurisdiction. A group of youths had gathered for a party featuring meat and alcohol when a quarrel over the preparation of a drink escalated.

According to eyewitnesses, the argument turned physical, and one of the men drew a firearm, firing multiple shots. One bullet struck Tony Lohra, a resident of the nearby area, in the stomach. He was rushed to the RIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors are working to stabilize his condition.

The police have sealed off the area and are questioning attendees to piece together the sequence of events. They are also looking into the legality of the weapons involved and whether any other offenses, such as illegal liquor consumption, took place.

Residents of Manda Baghicha have long voiced concerns about the prevalence of late‑night drinking sessions that often lead to minor brawls. The recent shooting has heightened anxiety, prompting community leaders to demand stronger police presence and stricter enforcement of public safety regulations.
