Palamu Tragedy: Authorities Examine Suicide, Homicide or Drowning Claims

In Palamu's Chainpur police jurisdiction, a grim discovery was made on Saturday when two bodies emerged from the Talapara village pond. The dead have been confirmed as RanjU Devi, wife of Arun Mahato, and her son, who was about one and a half years old.

According to relatives, RanjU Devi left her residence on Friday evening, stating she would go to the pond area for personal hygiene. Her failure to return sparked a night‑long search by family members and neighbors.

The breakthrough came when a handful of villagers passing by the pond noticed the floating corpses. Immediate notification was made to the victim’s family and to Chainpur police officials, who reached the location, coordinated with locals to extract the bodies, and forwarded them for post‑mortem examination.

One local hypothesis suggests the mother slipped while at the pond’s edge, and while trying to prevent her child from falling, both were pulled into deep water.
