Security forces in Jharkhand continue their operations to eradicate Naxalism. In the latest development, a significant encounter took place in the Chaibasa area of West Singhbhum district on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of Amit Hansda, a notorious Zonal Commander of a Naxalite organization. A reward of 10 lakh rupees was announced by the Jharkhand government for his capture. Security forces recovered an SLR rifle and other items from the scene. A search operation is underway in the area. Acting on intelligence, security forces initiated a joint operation near Relaparal village in the Goilkera police station area, where Naxalites were reportedly gathering to plan a major incident. The Naxalites opened fire on the approaching forces, prompting a retaliatory response. During the exchange, Amit Hansda was killed. He had been actively involved in Naxal activities for a long time and implicated in numerous violent incidents. This operation represents a major success for the Jharkhand Police and paramilitary forces, weakening the Naxal organization. The area has been cordoned off, and a thorough search is being conducted, with the possibility of a larger group of Naxalites hiding nearby. This follows a previous success on August 6th, when Martin Kerketta, the supreme leader of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and a 15-lakh-rupee rewardee, was killed in an encounter in Gumla district.
