Monsoon Lightning Tragedy Claims Lives of Three Women in Jharkhand
Sunday’s monsoon fury turned deadly in Ramgarh’s Patratua block when a bolt of lightning struck agricultural workers in two villages.
In Sankul, 48‑year‑old Rekha Devi and her daughter Roshni (22) were performing field work when the strike hit. Both women died instantly, and the couple’s husband was also among the victims.
A short distance away in Palani, three more women faced the same disaster. Sushanti Devi (30) did not survive, while Sunita Devi (32) and Kanchan Kumari (20) suffered severe burns. They received emergency care at Patratua Community Health Centre before being moved to Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences for further treatment.
The incident has left the local community bereft and prompted calls for stricter adherence to weather warnings. Agricultural laborers are being advised to suspend field activities during thunderstorms to avoid similar losses.
