Police conducted a major crackdown on illegal alcohol trade in the Chirakunda and Kalubathan areas under the Nirsa sub-division. A joint raid by the Chirakunda and Kalubathan police resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of both country-made and foreign liquor late Wednesday night. Two alcohol smugglers were apprehended during the operation. Further raids are underway to catch other suspects who fled. Details of the operation were shared by Nirsa SDPO Rajat Manik Bakhla during a press conference held at the Maithan office on Thursday. The SDPO stated that the raids were conducted under the direction of senior police officials to combat the illegal manufacturing and sale of alcohol. In one instance, a large quantity of alcohol was recovered from the house of Raghunath Tudu in Kathardih village, Kalubathan OP area. An alcohol seller named Mangal Tudu was arrested on the spot, who revealed the names of other individuals during interrogation. The police are now searching for these suspects. Additionally, a raid on a hotel near Juncunder Phatak vegetable market in the Chirakunda police station area led to the seizure of a consignment of foreign and country-made liquor. The hotel owner attempted to escape but was apprehended by the police. Both individuals arrested have been booked under relevant sections and sent to judicial custody. The SDPO affirmed that the operation will continue, and no one involved in the illegal alcohol trade will be spared.
