Lalpur Police Detain Woman Seeking Her Newborn Near SSP Home
Ranchi: Police in Ranchi detained a woman on Sunday after she arrived outside the SSP residence in Morhabadi with her other children, demanding the recovery of her newborn baby and reportedly attempting to set herself on fire.
Police from the Lalpur police station rushed to the spot and took her into custody, which prevented a possible tragedy.
Police said the woman belongs to Barja in the Pandra OP area. She has claimed that she was previously a victim of human trafficking. She also alleges that her husband cheated her and allegedly sold their newborn baby.
The woman has been visiting police stations regularly in search of her child, but she has not been able to get the baby back so far.
She has said that she has been trying for a long time to reclaim the child. A DNA test has been done on the baby she is claiming as her own. The report has not been received yet, and therefore the child's identity remains unconfirmed. For this reason, the baby has not been handed over to her.
Frustrated by the delay, the woman went to the SSP residence with her other children on Sunday, reaching a point where she was ready to attempt self-immolation. Police were informed, and the Lalpur station team detained her.
The Lalpur station in-charge said the woman is being counselled while in custody. The DNA test report is awaited, and officials believe the identity of the child and the woman's claim will become clear after it is received.
