Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Council Meeting Concludes: Agreement on Releasing 26 Prisoners, Directive to Open Open Jails
Meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Council concluded under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren.
Following in-depth deliberations between the Chief Minister and officials on cases related to the release of a total of 79 prisoners recommended by the Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Council, consensus was reached on the release of 26 prisoners.
State government is moving forward with a balanced approach of justice, sensitivity, and humanity.
Directive issued to identify land and submit proposals for opening open jails in all divisions of the state.

Ranchi, A meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Council was concluded today at the Chief Minister's Residential Office on Kanke Road, Ranchi, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren. In the meeting, cases related to the release of 79 prisoners serving life sentences in various jails of the state were reviewed. The meeting deliberated on 37 new cases recommended by the State Sentence Revision Council, as well as 42 cases related to release that were rejected in previous meetings.
Agreement reached on the release of 26 prisoners
Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren, in accordance with the recommendations of the State Sentence Revision Council, conducted a point-wise in-depth deliberation with officials on the proposal for the release of 79 prisoners serving life sentences. After a thorough review of all aspects, including the prescribed standards, eligibility criteria, conduct, period of imprisonment, legal provisions, opinions of courts, superintendents of police of the concerned districts, jail superintendents, and probation officers related to the release of the recommended convicted inmates, an agreement was reached on the release of 26 prisoners. In the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren directed officials to identify land and submit proposals for opening open jails in all divisions of the state.
State government is giving equal importance to humanitarian sentiments and reformative approach along with the justice system.
Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren told the officials that after release from various jails in accordance with the recommendations of the Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Council, necessary support should be provided for the rehabilitation, social reintegration, and dignified livelihood of such individuals. He said that our government gives equal importance to humanitarian sentiments and a reformative approach, along with the justice system. Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren directed officials to prepare a database of mentally ill prisoners who are currently in jail or have been released and provide them with the benefits of provisions under social security. The Chief Minister said that individuals released from jail should get an opportunity to rejoin the mainstream of society in accordance with laws and rules. This will not only pave the way for a new beginning in their lives but also strengthen rehabilitation and social harmony in society. The Chief Minister said that the state government is moving forward with a balanced approach of justice, sensitivity, and humanity.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary of the state, Shri Avinash Kumar, DGP, Mrs. Tadasha Mishra, Principal Secretary-cum-Legal Advisor, Law (Justice) Department, Shri Neeraj Kumar Srivastava, Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Shri Sudarshan Prasad Mandal, Judicial Commissioner, Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, and other officials.
