Ansari Directs On-Site Paddy Loss Survey Amid Cyclone Alert
Ranchi: The state government has asked officials to stay vigilant as the possible effects of the approaching Cyclonic Storm Arnab, including rain, gusty winds and lightning, create a threat to standing crops. The focus is on protecting farmers and strengthening disaster response.
Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari has written to the deputy commissioners of every district, asking them to carry out an immediate field survey of paddy crops that have suffered damage. He also asked that affected farmers be given relief as per the prevailing rules.
The minister said administrative teams should reach every village, check fields on the ground and assess the real extent of the loss in a neutral manner. Eligible farmers must be identified through a prepared list, so they can receive compensation under government provisions.
He was categorical that any lapse in the survey or a token exercise would not be allowed.
Alongside the crop survey, the district administration has been told to keep disaster management plans ready and to monitor sensitive locations more closely.
On the health front, civil surgeons have been instructed to remain alert. Government hospitals should be equipped with at least 10 extra beds, necessary medicines, oxygen supply and ambulance services.
The minister also asked for readiness to handle lightning strikes, snakebite cases and rain-borne illnesses. Each deputy commissioner must gather block-level reports and submit a combined loss report to the state, which will help the government understand the total impact.
