Investigation Underway After 62‑Year‑Old Ex‑Tata Steel Executive Dies in Tower Fall

Police investigations are ongoing after the death of Sandeep Pal, a former Tata Steel executive, who fell from the tenth floor of his apartment at Vijaya Garden Phase‑7, Baredih, on Monday.

The 62‑year‑old retired chief of Tata Steel’s Merchant Mill was rushed to Tata Main Hospital in critical condition. Hospital officials confirmed his death shortly after arrival.

Family members disclosed that Pal had been suffering from depression and severe mental stress in recent weeks. He had recently returned from Mumbai where his daughter began a B.Com program, a transition that reportedly heightened his anxiety.

Law enforcement officers have taken custody of the body for a post‑mortem examination and are interrogating residents, building security personnel and close relatives to reconstruct the events leading to the fall.

No definitive cause has been established yet, and officials emphasized that the investigation will consider all possible factors, including health issues and environmental conditions. The post‑mortem findings and subsequent police report are expected to clarify the circumstances.

The incident has left a palpable sense of mourning throughout the Vijaya Garden neighbourhood, with many former colleagues from Tata Steel joining the family in sorrow.
