Initiative Towards Establishment of Film and Television Institute in Jharkhand

The establishment of a Film and Television Institute in Jharkhand is being initiated, with preparations beginning at the Information and Public Relations Department. On 22 July, in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, an MoU was signed between Jharkhand Film and Development Corporation and Satyejit Ray Film and Television Institute, and the Vice-Chancellor of SRFTI, Dr. Samiran Dutta, visited the Information Building with his delegation. During the meeting various aspects of setting up the institute were discussed and the available space in the Information Building was inspected. The department’s Joint Director, Mr. Anand, stated that short-duration courses will be launched in the initial phase, offering part-time, full-time and evening classes of one to six months. Using technical support from SRFTI, the department plans to start short-term courses soon. Vice-Chancellor Dutta said that JFTI will provide world-class technical training to Jharkhand's youth interested in mass media and cinema, covering sound designing, editing, animation, script and screenplay writing, cinematography, direction and film production. He also mentioned that the institute will assess facilities to start courses and will support the institute’s construction, blueprint, classroom design and guest-faculty training. He suggested that once JFTI becomes fully operational, short-term training programmes should be conducted for state media personnel to enhance their skills, and that a film appreciation course should be introduced initially to foster a healthy film culture. The meeting was also attended by Assistant Directors Shahid Alam, Rashid Akhtar, Biroo Kushwaha, Sunita Dhan, Abhay Kumar and SRFTI associate professors Nilajan Banerjee and Indranil Mukherjee.
