India’s Diwali Weather 2023: Dry Skies in Delhi, Showers in South, Chill in North

The latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department paints a vivid picture of India's weather on Diwali 2023. While the southern belt wrestles with lingering monsoon activity, the northern heartland braces for an early winter chill, and the Himalayas anticipate the first dustings of snow.

Delhi will stay dry on the festival night, with temperatures climbing to a maximum of 29 °C and dipping to 15 °C after sunset. A light fog may drift over the city in the early hours, and the polluted air remains a challenge. Rain is not expected until after November 13.

Uttar Pradesh is set for a clear Diwali sky, although the next seven days could bring intermittent fog and mild mist across several districts. In Bihar, the onset of cold weather is evident—morning fog and cooler nights are already in place, and the state will not witness any storms or rain before November 14.

Eastern states have a varied outlook. West Bengal’s low‑lying areas and the sub‑Himalayan terrain of Sikkim are likely to see scattered showers from November 9 to 12. Jharkhand will experience a generally pleasant day with a thin morning haze, and limited rain is forecast for November 10‑11 in select locations.

The Himalayan region will see mixed conditions. Five districts in Uttarakhand—Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh—may encounter light rain, while elevations above 3,300 m could receive snowfall. Himachal Pradesh stays dry today and tomorrow, but a western disturbance arriving on November 10 may bring rain and light snow from the 10th to the 12th. Overall, the country faces a dry capital, wet southern coasts, a cooling north, and occasional snow in the hills, shaping the festive atmosphere across India.
