Hospital Director Defends Care, Says Billing Was Accurate and Patient Was Critical

The managing director of the private hospital in Ranchi, Dr. Virendra Kumar, issued a detailed statement rejecting the allegations made by Rajiv’s family. According to Dr. Kumar, the teenager arrived in a gravely injured state with multiple fractures involving the head, limbs, chest, and spine, necessitating extensive surgical and intensive‑care interventions.

Dr. Kumar asserted that the hospital followed all prescribed medical protocols and that no lapse in care occurred. He explained that the patient’s death was caused by a severe infection that developed despite the implementation of standard preventive measures, given the patient’s already fragile condition.

Regarding the financial aspects, the director clarified that the total cost of treatment was close to INR 16 lakh, not the INR 22 lakh figure that some media outlets have reported. He assured that the hospital is fully cooperating with the inquiry committee and will provide any additional documentation required.
