Hill States Brace for Persistent Downpours Amid Monsoon Surge

Mountainous regions of northern India are bracing for an extended spell of heavy rainfall as the monsoon pushes inland. Uttarakhand has been warned of widespread rain until August 28, with districts such as Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Nainital, Rishikesh, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Almora and Haridwar likely to receive intense showers.

Himachal Pradesh is not far behind. Areas including Mandi, Chamba, Una, Kinnaur, Kangra, Kullu, Solan, Bilaspur and Hamirpur are expected to experience rain accompanied by strong winds. Jammu & Kashmir also faces the prospect of heavy rain in several valleys.

These conditions raise the risk of landslides, flash floods and power outages across the hilly terrain. Local authorities have urged residents to stay alert, avoid low‑lying areas, and cooperate with disaster‑management teams as the monsoon continues its aggressive push.
