High‑Profile Naxal Leaders Turn Over Arms to Police in Ranchi

A group of sixteen Naxal operatives, including several senior commanders, laid down their arms at the Jharkhand Police headquarters in Ranchi on Tuesday. The act was performed in front of DGP Tadasha Mishra and senior CRPF officers.

The seized armaments comprised AK‑47s, INSAS, HK‑33, M‑16 rifles and a U.S. carbine, accompanied by 38 magazines and 1,562 live rounds. Among the surrendering militants were 11 men and five women.

Police officials attribute the wave of defections to Jharkhand’s “surrender strike” campaign, a component of Operation Navjeevan‑2 that pairs security pressure with generous rehabilitation packages for former insurgents.
