High Court Rejects Stay Request as Soren’s Money‑Laundering Case Moves Forward
The Jharkhand High Court has turned down Hemant Soren’s request to stay the charge‑setting process in the PMLA case linked to an 8.86‑acre land transaction in Ranchi’s Bargain Area. The special PMLA court had already recorded charges under Section 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, citing evidence from the Enforcement Directorate.
Soren had appeared before the special court via video link, where Justice Yogesh Kumar presided. The high court’s refusal to intervene means the case will continue its trajectory in the PMLA court.
A partial hearing on September 29 set the stage for a comprehensive session at 2:15 pm the same day. The court has summoned the ED for a written response and directed the central government to file its reply.
The next full hearing is fixed for October 28. The high court clarified that it will not entertain a stay based solely on the petition filed, allowing the special court’s charge‑setting process to proceed uninterrupted.
