The Latehar Police have uncovered a clever smuggling tactic where illicit liquor was being transported under the guise of agricultural transport. During a late-night operation at Sasang Mod in the Chandwa region, police stopped a suspicious truck that appeared to be carrying sacks of husk. However, a thorough search revealed that the fodder was merely a cover for 1,054 crates of illegal alcohol destined for the Bihar market. The total value of the seized liquor is estimated to exceed ₹1 crore in the black market. According to DSP Sandeep Kumar Gupta, the syndicate used two additional vehicles to scout the route and protect the main cargo. While five members of the gang were apprehended at the scene, the alleged mastermind, Ranjeet Yadav, managed to evade capture. Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment originated in Haryana and was slated for delivery across the border in Bihar, where a strict prohibition law is in effect. This bust is considered one of the largest in the district's recent history, showcasing the heightened vigilance of the local law enforcement agencies.
