Gujarat Under Red Alert: Schools Shut as Torrential Rains Persist

IMD has declared an extreme rain alert for several districts in Gujarat from July 31 to August 2. Districts including Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Tapi, Dang and Narmada are under red or orange warnings. The state government has placed all district magistrates and disaster management teams on high alert, cancelled official leaves, and deployed NDRF and SDRF teams. Schools across the affected districts remain closed on Friday to safeguard students and staff.

The relentless downpours have also heightened the risk of flash floods and landslides in hilly terrains. Authorities are closely monitoring river levels, particularly the Mahi and Sabarmati, and have issued advisories for residents to stay prepared for sudden water surges.
