Jharkhand’s Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar took a proactive step on Monday by writing to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, advocating for a new direct train from Ranchi to Rishikesh via Lohardaga, Tori, Daltonganj, Dehri-on-Sone, Varanasi, Ayodhyadham, Bareilly, and Haridwar. This comes after receiving a petition from the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Aditya Malhotra.
Highlighting the public interest, the Governor pointed out the pressing demand for straightforward rail access to Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and religious landmarks like Ayodhya, Haridwar, and Rishikesh. Travelers today grapple with cumbersome routes involving several train changes, resulting in unnecessary delays and discomfort.
The envisioned service will not only simplify pilgrimages but also open doors to Lord Ram’s darshan in Ayodhyadham and serene dips in the Ganges at Haridwar and Rishikesh. For Jharkhand’s devout population, this means fulfilling spiritual aspirations without the hassles of fragmented journeys.
Economically, the route promises to bridge two vibrant states, enhancing religious tourism, commerce, and cultural bonds. Businesses in hospitality, transport, and retail along the corridor could witness a boom, while broader socio-economic ties deepen.
This development aligns with national efforts to improve rail infrastructure for pilgrims, especially amid rising interest in Ayodhya following its temple consecration. If approved, the service could set a precedent for more such connectivity projects, benefiting millions across India’s heartland.
