Governor Gangwar Emphasizes Tribal Heritage and Environmental Stewardship

At the inauguration of the Jharkhand Tribal Festival 2026 in Ranchi, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar used the platform to stress the significance of tribal heritage and the community’s role in environmental conservation. Attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the ceremony showcased the state’s indigenous art, dance and music.

The Governor highlighted that tribal societies possess a distinct worldview that intertwines cultural expression with a deep respect for ecosystems. He called for continuous governmental focus on education, healthcare, nutrition, skill development and economic upliftment to ensure that tribal populations thrive in a rapidly changing world.

He reminded the audience that Jharkhand’s tribal peoples have, for centuries, acted as stewards of forests, rivers and wildlife. In an era marked by climate change and ecological crises, their traditional knowledge can guide sustainable development strategies. The Governor urged policymakers to strike a balance between infrastructural growth and the preservation of natural heritage.

Citing his recent journeys to remote tribal hamlets, Governor Gangwar praised the community’s hardworking, honest and proud nature, describing them as exemplars of social cohesion. He called on tribal youth to embrace education as the key to personal confidence, social transformation and nation‑building, referencing President Droupadi Murmu’s ascent from modest tribal roots as an inspiring narrative.

The Governor also reviewed central government initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at holistic tribal development, mentioning the ‘Dharti Aaba Tribal Village Utkarshe’ launch and the Prime Minister’s visit to Birsa Munda’s birthplace, which led to the designation of a nationwide Tribal Pride Day.

He honored the countless tribal heroes who contributed to India’s independence, naming figures such as Birsa Munda, Tilka Manjhi, Veer Budhu Bhagat and others. The Governor also paid tribute to late leader Shibu Soren, lauding his modesty and lifelong fight for tribal rights.

Chief Minister Soren described the festival as more than a cultural showcase—it is a reaffirmation of tribal identity, rights and the commitment to protect water, forests, land and culture for future generations. The event concluded with a walk through displays of tribal handicrafts, cuisine, literature, and performances by more than 600 artists representing a wide range of tribal communities.
