Five Kids Hospitalised with H1N1 in Ranchi, Including Newborn

Medical teams in Ranchi have admitted five children suffering from the H1N1 virus, marking a worrying shift in the outbreak's demographic profile. Among the admitted is a five‑month‑old infant who was brought in from Bhagalpur after showing severe respiratory symptoms.

All three older children first exhibited signs of pneumonia before swine flu was confirmed through laboratory testing. The health department has highlighted that swine flu can cause abrupt fever, cough, sore throat, nasal discharge, headache, muscle aches, and intense exhaustion.

In pediatric cases, vomiting and diarrhoea are common, and any indication of breathing difficulty, rapid pulse, persistent high temperature, marked lethargy, or facial discoloration requires immediate hospital care.

RIMS and Sadar have been placed on alert mode, with dedicated wards for infected patients. The ground level of the Cottage building at RIMS is now reserved for H1N1 cases, and authorities are closely monitoring incoming patients from other states.
