Why the Finance Minister Recalled His Escort and Cars in Jharkhand
Jharkhand's Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore returned his security detail and the three official cars after authorities declined to allocate an additional vehicle. The minister had argued that 16 security personnel could not be effectively accommodated in the three cars provided.
He wrote to the DGP on March 14, April 21 and June 29, seeking a fourth car, but the police chief never replied. Subsequently, an internal notice from a joint secretary ordered the return of the vehicles, which Kishore obeyed.
The minister, a native of the Maoist‑prone Palamu district, asserted that proper security arrangements are vital. When asked if the matter had been escalated to the Chief Minister, he replied negatively, insisting that the police department bears the primary responsibility for safeguarding officials.
