Family Trust Betrayed: How a Brother‑in‑Law Became a Killer for Inheritance
A tale of betrayal and bloodshed unfolded in Jharkhand's Pakur region when a brother‑in‑law turned murderer to secure an inheritance. Mantu Das, a tenant with no children, was the caretaker of his brother‑in‑law Sabir Soren, a government livestock officer reported to own property worth millions. With Sabir lacking a direct heir, Mantu was the de facto custodian of the estate. Alok Murmu, the landlord of the house where the duo lived, allegedly coveted Sabir's assets. Prosecutors say Murmu first ingratiated himself with Mantu, sharing meals and drinks. Once Mantu was sufficiently inebriated, the conspirators bludgeoned him with an axe and a hammer, causing fatal injuries. To conceal the crime, they tied his body to his own motorcycle, dragged it into the abandoned quarry at Maliyapada, and hoped authorities would deem it a quarry mishap. Police have arrested Murmu along with two accomplices, Pritam and Prince Hembrom, and recovered the murder weapons, rope, and the victim's motorcycle. Ongoing forensic analysis aims to piece together the full sequence of events as the legal process proceeds.
