Documentary Proof Beats Alleged Blackmail in Jharkhand Marriage Case
The Jharkhand High Court’s recent verdict underscores how official documentation can outweigh allegations of intimidation. The petitioner, a state‑appointed teacher, alleged that after securing his job, village elders coerced him into acknowledging a woman as his wife to exert pressure on him. He insisted that no legal marriage ever occurred. However, the court found extensive paperwork—voter lists spanning several elections, Aadhaar enrollment entries, and voter identification cards—all showing the teacher’s name alongside the woman’s as husband and wife. In addition, several witnesses testified that the couple lived together as a marital unit for many years. The bench concluded that the teacher failed to produce any material that could invalidate these records, thereby upholding the family court’s order to restore conjugal rights.
