Dhanbad Navodaya School Faces Scrutiny over Safety Lapses and Ragging Allegations

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Narsa, Dhanbad is again the focus of controversy after two serious incidents. In April 2026, ten students escaped the school’s fence; one of them later drowned in the campus pond, raising serious questions about perimeter security. More recently, a tenth‑grade student claimed to have been physically assaulted and subjected to ragging by four classmates. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken cognizance of both cases without awaiting a formal complaint. Parents accuse the school administration of negligence, noting that the same ten students received transfer certificates after the drowning incident, while the institution failed to reinforce its safety measures. CWC member Mamata Arora has called for comprehensive counseling for the affected children and stricter security upgrades. Local legislator Dhulu Mahto has demanded swift punitive action against those responsible, emphasizing that financial aid from central and state governments should be directed toward safeguarding students’ lives and future.
