Delhi to Himalayas Brace for Thunderstorms and Gale‑Force Winds

The monsoon’s rapid phase may be waning, but rain‑related disturbances remain widespread across the nation. The India Meteorological Department’s 13 October bulletin warned of thunderstorms, heavy showers and wind speeds that could touch 60 km/h in multiple zones.

Delhi experienced a marked downpour on Monday. Forecasts suggest partially cloudy conditions will continue over the city until 18 October, with daily highs reaching 33°C and lows dipping to 20°C.

Uttar Pradesh faces a broad spectrum of weather challenges, with districts such as Lakhimpur Kheri, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Mathura, Deoria, Bahraich, Gonda, Sonbhadra, Unnao, Etawah, Firozabad, Kasganj, Azamgarh and Mainpuri likely to encounter rain, high winds and occasional thunder. Bihar’s districts are also expected to endure comparable conditions, while Jharkhand anticipates moderate to heavy rainfall.

Further west, Rajasthan may see scattered rain. In central India, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab are under alerts for rain and gusty winds, and Haryana together with Chandigarh could confront winds ranging between 40 and 50 km/h. West Bengal anticipates heavy showers in certain pockets.

The northeastern corridor will see varied weather: Assam and Meghalaya may continue to receive rain up to 18 October; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have prospects of showers until 16 October; and Arunachal Pradesh could experience light to moderate rain from 16 to 17 October. Southern states are projected to see rain activity through 18 October.

Mountainous regions will feel the most pronounced impact. In Uttarakhand, districts like Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Almora, Nainital, Dehradun and Pithoragarh are expected to get rain with wind speeds near 40 km/h. Himachal Pradesh’s Solan, Bilaspur, Kinnaur, Lahaul‑Spiti, Kangra and Mandi face similar warnings, while parts of Jammu and Kashmir may be hit by heavy rain.
