Delhi Chill, Odisha Red Alert and Hill Snowfall: Weather Today
Weather patterns across India are diverging sharply. While heavy rain lashes the south and Odisha faces a red alert, northern plains are slowly adjusting to winter-like conditions and mountain regions are preparing for snowfall. The Meteorological Department has released its outlook for October 24.
The current scenario is shaped by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal that may strengthen into a deep depression. Monsoon has already retreated from much of the country, yet its after-effects continue in several states.
Delhi and the National Region
The capital has begun experiencing light cold after the monsoon withdrawal, while pollution levels continue to climb. Partly cloudy weather is expected today, with no indication of rainfall. Maximum temperature may touch 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may drop to 19 degrees Celsius. Similar partly cloudy skies may return tomorrow.
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand
Uttar Pradesh has entered a phase of pleasant winter chill, mild in the morning and evening. Another spell of heavy showers is forecast. Western UP may witness rain and a hailstorm warning is in place, which may increase the cold. From October 28, eastern UP may see a shift in weather with a spell of unseasonal rain. Bihar is experiencing mild cold during early mornings and nights, though no major rain is likely in the next few days. Jharkhand may remain mostly dry on Saturday.
West Bengal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh
Some places in West Bengal may see rainfall. Rajasthan is set for changing weather as a new western disturbance brings clouds, thunderstorms with light rain, and strong winds to some regions. Madhya Pradesh has no alert for storms or rain for the next four days, and temperatures are expected to fall.
South India and Odisha
Odisha has been placed under a red alert for 20 districts due to the threat of torrential rain and strong gusts. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep are forecast to get heavy rain today. Karnataka may see moderate rain, and Andhra Pradesh will also experience showers. Coastal Andhra Pradesh could see extremely heavy rain on October 27 and 28.
Hills Brace for Snow
In Uttarakhand, very light to light rain may fall in parts of Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Fresh snowfall is highly probable in high Himalayan areas above 3500 meters. Himachal Pradesh is likely to see rain and snow in some districts today and tomorrow. Jammu and Kashmir may receive both rain and snowfall today.
